An Introduction to the Tavshar Archon 15mm Mechas

Loud Ninja Games will be releasing in late November though 15mm.co.uk brand new codes at the core of which are the fantastic Tavshar Archon mecha in 15mm scale.  This article by Eli Arndt gives you an introduction to the concepts and story behind the mecha and how they came to be.  The sketching here was done by Sam Croes who is a big fan of LNG and who has also painted up an Archon too.  See Loud Ninja Games HERE.  Take it from here Eli...

The Story of the Archon
The Yan’drassi (YD) Archon mecha started out as an idea for how to add some heavy firepower to the existing YD range. So far, the range includes several infantry option and a light vehicle that has some firepower but not enough to take the fight to an opponent’s medium to heavy vehicle. While tanks and other vehicles are definitely in the realm of possibility for the YD, I felt the first release since the Kickstarter really needed to make a statement and mecha certainly make a statement.

For the design, I contacted sculptor Sean Bullough who had sculpted the original Yan’drassi range and who I knew was a huge anime and mecha fan with a broad frame of reference for the genre and various design aesthetics. I had seen his work with ClearHorizon miniatures first Kickstarter and the great work he had done on their mecha design and so I was confident in his ability to deliver a quality model.

This is one of the first projects I have done where there was no concept art. Sean and I talked about design elements I wanted and drew mostly from references drawn from other existing mecha. The process was a lot of back and forth with me giving some design points and sending and image and Sean sending me his own thoughts and additional reference ideas. Sean has a vast collection of mecha pictures that he was able to draw from so we quickly found our stride in design process. For me, the key was to make a design that looked like it fit in with the existing Yan’drassi aesthetic. This meant rounded shapes. As the Archons are piloted be the YD’s elites, the Tavshar, I also wanted the Archon to resemble the Tavshar Primes. This second element meant making them look like a warrior’s armour as much as a battle ready machine.

For weapons, I wanted the Archon to have a good number of choices. I wanted all versions of the Archon to have missile support so a pair of vertical launch missiles pods was added. The original three weapon options were a basic Shredder rifle, a sword/shield combo and the powerful, lance-like Singularity Cannon capable of launching micro black holes across the battlefield.  After these the model had been molded and Gavin and I started talking about release plans, it was decided to add an additional three weapon options to the Archon to provide greater depth and variety to the design. These new parts were designed by Sam Croes and would include a new more powerful Plasma Rifle, a missile launcher version with several add-on missile pods, and a massive Ripper Cannon with an attached combat blade. This brought the total options to six, making the Archon a versatile and unpredictable opponent.  There are six different Archon mecha single codes.

The final model does including a lot of individual parts, regardless of which weapon configuration you choose. This was a by product of trying to minimize the number of individual parts that needed to be made, allowing us to then re-use many parts by making the model mostly poseable. This makes the Archon a more advanced model and one that will take a bit of attention with a fantastic reward.

So, where does the Archon fit into the Yan’drassi force structure?
Archons are elite war machines, piloted by Tavshar that have reached the rank of Prime and shown their prowess in battle above other Primes, making them the elite among elites. Archon is not only the name of the mecha but also the new rank of those who pilot them. Each Archon selects its weapon load based on its mission or sometimes the preference of the individual Archon where command edict does not override personal choice. A mix of weapon types is common, allowing Archons operating in force to counter unexpected threats. Archons are most often tasked with providing heavy support to lesser troops alone or in small groups, but may be used as strike teams by themselves.

For general combat Shredder Guns and Plasma Cannons, supported by Heavy Ripper Guns are the most effective, combining withering fire with powerful long-range plasma fire. For heavier targets Singularity Cannons and Missiles are best. On the rare occasions, where assault in necessary, there is nothing better than the combination of a powered blade and shield for wading into enemy formations.

We hope you enjoyed this read and you can find Loud Ninja Games range HERE.  There will be one more big article on the Tavshar Archons which will show you all the codes, the poses, the bundles and reaction forces which are being released late November.

Kidnap - An alternative use for the HOT103 Cockatrice 15mm monster

I am delighted to present to all you 15mm fantasy wargamers out there a new article by Andy Jefcoate!  If you missed the previous half dozen by Andy you can see them on the blog HERE. Great for Age of Might and Steel and also USEME 15mm Fantasy plus of course any other 15mm system this time his subject is a conversion of our HOT103 Cockatrice one of this years most popular releases.  Enjoy and Thanks.  GBS

Kidnap - An alternative use for the HOT103 Cockatrice 15mm monster!

Some of you may have read my earlier article about painting the new Cockatrice that has joined the excellent 15mm.co.uk HOT range of figures. By strange coincidence Sam Croes and I both painted the new figure using similar colours despite being separated by a few hundred miles! I was therefore determined to paint another and come up with a very different colour scheme so Gavin very generously provided another casting for me to use. At the same time I was planning a big fantasy game and needed a  general to lead my combined forces of evil, so I decided that the Cockatrice would make an excellent mount.

After much consideration I picked the mounted Chaos Knight figure from the Tabletop fantasy range (537 Chaos Knight on mount) to be my General. This was because the figure has a full helm so could be male or female, human or Vampire and could be used to fit various scenarios. In my game it was a Vampire Lord who had control of a Goblin tribe to fight alongside his Undead forces but as I've said before the only limit is your imagination. I clipped off the spear that the figure holds and replaced it with the sword from the Undead Cavalry standard bearer (HOT24) to make it different from my other Chaos Knights.

To make the figure stand out further I decided to portray it as in flight as the Cockatrice already has it's wings spread. I carefully clipped off the base and used a flying stand (from the LBA1 pack) that was attached to the Cockatrice with a thin brass rod. The flying stand itself was then attached to a 40mm square base to give it stability.

As the bulk of my forces of good are human I decided to put a human command figure in the creatures claws to look like an enemy leader has been kidnapped for questioning. I used the command figure from pack MRC26 of the Altuos historical range as the majority of my humans are also from that range.

For this Cockatrice I painted the scales in purple with a light blue underbelly and legs, then the feathers were coloured a light grey with the crests on the head in a vivid pink. The whole thing was given a black ink wash to tone it down so that it fit in with my Undead army but as the Chaos knight is mostly encased in metal, pretty much any colour would work.

I enjoyed this project as it's fun to spend a bit longer on your leader figures to make them stand out on the tabletop. I know that the colour scheme won't be to everyone's taste but you have to agree that it's very different to the last Cockatrice that I painted. I have a growing collection of characters with monsters as mounts and they are always fun to do. While I like having a good size collection of generic monsters that will fit with pretty much any army, it's good to tie some to a specific force as for me it helps to give the army an identity.

Here is the HOT103 Cockatrice as it appears on the 15mm.co.uk website.  It is a three piece white metal monster.

Recently the lads at 15mm.co.uk released digital downloads of Age of Might and Steel and UM002 USEME 15mm Fantasy.  These are excellent compact rule systems check them out!

Sam Croes customised 15mm SFA Winter Troopers

Festive Fun month continues with a great little blog article now.

Next week we will be presenting the annual free USEME scenario for winter 2015 titled 'Abominable Weather' a follow up to last years Branch Face and the year before Cold Thing both of which can be found on the links. The scenario will make use of the new SN03 Abominable Snow Monsters miniatures added to the seasonal range this month alongside the Evil Snowmen and Killer Xmas Trees.

But before that I want to introduce you to the brave lads and lassies of Security Force Alpha (SFA) our generic near future packs in the HOF range but with a difference...

Our lead designer Sam Croes is a wizard of the green stuff and many other things too. He has an extensive collection of miniatures of his own many of which have been 'tweaked' by his hand into unique poses or looks. His own collection of SFA miniatures is no different. These images show you his Winter Troopers converted from standard Security Force Alpha miniatures.

Below are the larger images but as you can see the collection of Winter SFA Troopers is composed of seven different unique miniatures. The command poses are all converted from HOF95 SFA Command. An officer with re-breather for extreme cold climate as well as fur lined uniform and a communications trooper with the sat dish augmented with long ariel gear to manage the extreme conditions. Lastly a sniper with additional fur lining and a long cloak along with bigger scope on his rifle. The trooper poses are taken from HOF96, HOF97 and HOF99 and are armed with sub-machine guns and large bore combat shotgun. The normal uniform has been made better for artic weather by the addition of extra linings and fur trimming as well as a re-breather supplying warmed pre-warmed air. Some of the troopers have weather proofed fabric packs on their backs allowing them to carry survival equipment and extra food.

We hope you liked this quick look at these converted miniatures. The Security Force Alpha range contains seventeen different packs and more than thirty poses and is well suited to near future, present day, post apocalypse and many more settings. Designed by Elton Waters (Infantry and Skimmer) and Sam Croes (Turret and Charger) the SFA sits well in your collection as the faceless enforcers of your will!

Have a good festive time and look out for the scenario soon.

Concepting and Developing the Ikwen

On the 4th of March 2015 the latest expansion to the growing and respected Loud Ninja Games miniatures line will be released.  Eli Arndt has earned himself a reputation as a great guy, a keen hobbyist and a deliverer upon promises made.  If you missed the first look posting on the Ikwen then go back one post and have a look.  Otherwise you can read on to learn about the concepts and ideas behind the Ikwen that have taken them from the mind to the page to the hand and to the mold.  So here is a link to the Loud Ninja Games page on 15mm.co.uk and from here it will be in Eli's own words:

Over a generation ago, the planet Kwiell was set upon by aliens bent on exploiting the natural resources of the planet. The planet’s native population, the Ikwen, found themselves suddenly enslaved and their society rocked as they were enslaved, put to work and in many cases hunted and killed.  The Ikwen have spent decades in frustrated servitude to these invading overlords, hedging on their beliefs and their close-knit kinship ties to get them through. It was only when the invaders sought to remove their spiritual identities that they found the courage to rise up and go to war.

The conflict began as acts of sabotage, ambushes and in some cases organized resistance but as time went on it grew into a very real, very active militia war. Weapons were procured through theft or the trade of the very resources they had been robbed of. Groups of soldiers took to the wilderness, the highlands and steppes where they enlisted the locals there into their fight. Ancient desert fortresses and settlements were once more turned into homes for fighters and their families. Ancient warrior traditions and less-spoken of factions found a renewed place in the world.

The Ikwen are one side of an asymmetric war against a higher tech, invading enemy. They fight in a less organized, militia style, utilizing acquired weapons, not of their of own manufacture.  While we see them as very much freedom-fighting indigenous life forms, use them as alien invaders, allies, mercenaries or even lower tech indigenous forces for more organized warfare.

Designing the Ikwen, I have always had an image of their conflict in my mind, even if I have never quite assigned an enemy to them (this has become part of their appeal). In their back story they are an exploited indigenous people, rising up to fight for their home world. Part of exploring this back story has been trying to visualize what this world and their conflict might look like. To this end, I have been working with my concept artist, Todd Ulrich, to do some art that depicts their fight.

In the above picture we see several Ikwen moving through the rocky terrain of their home world. In the foreground three militia fighters move cautiously passed a long-downed flyer of alien origin. The foremost fighter packs with him a case containing extra ammunition. His companions can be see carrying Huli blades and assault rifles purchased from arms dealers, likely with valuable natural resources.  In the background, the other Ikwen are engaging an overhead enemy. The rocket launcher, hunkered down behind a half buried industrial rig is firing off his first rocket. After that, he can eject the spent canister from the disposable frame, dropping the second canister into place. ready to fire.  I hope that you enjoy this art from Todd Ulrich. As the Ikwen miniatures progress, I hope to have some more art done.

The Ikwen range is designed to represent one side of a conflict against an undetermined foe, making them ideal opposition force for any range of miniatures as they are not designed to fight any specific force. This is not special, in itself, but what makes their weapon design tough as a militia force is that they have no pre-made world from which they would have sourced their irregular arsenal. When considering how to arm them, the decision was made to give the Ikwen weapons that were analogous to the weapons seen in terrestrial militia forces, but not human weapons. A balance between form and function had to be reached and with the help of artist Todd Ulrich, I think we did just that.

Todd took my notes and together we came up with what you see above. With the exception of the blades (Huli) the other weapons are very much cousins to weapons we know. Assault rifles, sub-machine guns, shotguns, and the rest of the cast are here. All familiar, but looking like they were made in a factory far away. This will allow them to fight any force of miniatures enemies and not have to worry about having weapons that are too human or too alien.

In a lot of ways the weapons were picked based on how they would look in the hands of miniatures. I can see Ikwen swinging around their Huli or lugging around the suitcase-like reloads of their rocket launchers while they scurry around, snapping off shots with their rugged assault weapons, all in a desperate play to fight whoever players pit them against.

The Ikwen do not wear conventional clothing because they really have no biological or societal imperative to do so. Having evolved in the environment in which they exist, unlike humans who evolved in warmer climates and then left that behind, the Ikwen are already protected from their environment by then nature of their bodies which include a small degree of natural body armour (e.g.thick, knobby skin). They have no external genitals either, so no reproductive parts to keep safe. They do wear religious clothing in the form of the breach cloth Zkoot. Another element that keeps them from covering up too much is that they breath through slits in their abdomen that are concealed under the scale there. As for body armor, it comes down to availability, the same sort of availability that limits the amount of body armor seen in current day Earthly militia/rebel/insurgent/freedom fighters. We see very few examples where such groups are equipped beyond the basics of war - a gun and some ammo.

Zkoot. My background in gaming starts as an RPG guy and this has stuck with me all along. I usually end up on the GM side of things and as such world building, character developing and background fluff are sort of second nature to me. This comes out in my miniatures projects as well whether it is my own gaming or designing stuff for release by LNG.

When developing the Ikwen, it was important form to manifest some sort of cultural elements in their designs. One of the easiest ways to do this in miniatures is through distinctive articles of clothing. In the Ikwen this came out as a sort of ceremonial cloth worn around the waist called a "Zkoot".

Every Ikwen receives a Zkoot at birth. It is the first and last thing they will ever wear. The Zkoot is tied into their belief system and the Ikwen believe that they record the events of their life to be proclaimed when they enter the afterlife and join their ancestors. To die without a Zkoot is to be denied the afterlife.

Zkoot are worn tied around the waist in a way that allows a wide panel to hang between the legs. This panel displays patterns and symbols that identify the family ties, community and even nationality of the Ikwen wearing it. The Zkoot is worn at all times except when being washed or repaired and even then certain rituals must be upheld in the way it is maintained including restrictions on materials, folding and storage. Holy men among the Ikwen do not wear the Zkoot around their waist. Instead they wear their sacred cloth draped over their head and shoulders, shrouding their faces. In this way, interaction with the holy men is not with them but directly with the lineage displayed on the Zkoot and thus the ancestral line of the Ikwen.

Because of the connection with the afterlife, the absence or loss of a Zkoot is a serious crisis for Ikwen. Those born outside of traditional family bonds or who are orphaned often have no Zkoot and live marginalized lives. Those without Zkoot or "Hadzakoot" are often looked on as untrustworthy, false, even corrupted as they are seen to have no accountability. It is no surprise that Hadzakoot are often involved in criminal dealings and other undesirable lines of work. It is possible for a Hadzakoot to acquire a Zkoot in some cases such as adoption, special religious rituals and high-level political decree. It is considered an incredibly solemn and selfless act to bequeath one's own Zkoot to another Ikwen and thus surrender ones chances at an afterlife.

Ki-Ki-Zkoot. There are few instances where the Zkoot plays directly into the actions of Ikwen as in the case of the Ki-Ki-Zkoot, a sect of fanatic warriors. Ki-Ki-Zkoot have always existed among the Ikwen but have always risen in numbers during times of great conflict when there is a need for those who are willing to do the things that would shame their lineage.  Ki-Ki-Zkoot surrender their sacred cloths in a ceremony in which they pass them on to an unfortunate soul, bringing them into their families to replace them. While this frees the fanatic of his obligations to his ancestors, it also indentures the recipient of the Zkoot to the great responsibility of not only fulfilling his obligation to his new family but also honoring the warrior who's place he has taken. The recipients known as Yotzkoot often go on to be civic leaders, frequently rising as priests, teachers, or other mentors to their communities.

Once they have shed their Zkoot, these fanatics are unfettered by societies rules and expectations. They are now ready to fight an unrestricted battle and it is expected that they will do anything and everything to win short of suicide. While sacrifice and extremes are the stock and trade of these fanatics, to waste their lives and the opportunity needlessly is still looked on as taboo. Ki-Ki-Zkoot are often scarred and marked, showing their savagery in open displays. They often carry multiple weapons, including melee weapons.

Mugoda. Every society has it's rebels and those who buck convention. Among the Ikwen, these are the Mugoda or "Shadowy Ones". These Ikwen live by a different set of rules within  proper Ikwen society. They are a sort of under-society that exists to function where a society needs them to - breaking rules, while adhering to their own. In many ways the Mugoda are the organized crime syndicates of this alien culture.

Like the Ki-Ki-Zkoot they exist to do things that polite Ikwen society does not look fondly upon. Unlike the warrior fanatics, these Ikwen have not surrendered their Zkoot but instead wear theirs proudly and garishly, attaching charms and trinkets, trophies and other embellishment to what is normally a very modest attire. They also pierce their skin with obvious signs of wealth and wear jewelry. To the Mougoda, it's best to live life well because the afterlife is not going to be pleasant. Mugoda afterlife is an eternity of low service and drudgery. It is also worth noting that dealing with Mugoda is allowed by common Ikwen belief as the layer of detachment absolves one of any real guilt.

The Mugoda figure prominently in the Ikwen's fight as their underworld enterprise allows them access to materials and resources not available to those among regular society. This has allowed them to stockpile weapons and armor, fighting with gear that is often far more sophisticated than the rest of the Ikwen militias. In this way, these criminal syndicates provide a much needed backbone to regular militia, though often at a cost.

The Miniatures. At the end of this process we have the miniatures sculpted by Roderick Campbell. We hope you like them as much as we go.

Thanks for Reading.

Galactic Knights to be expanded in 2015!

“The Senate must be protected from the psychic assaults of the Utlragaranians or its crystal walls will crumble and the galaxy will be exposed to the mind tearing death of civilisation. A duty of rescue falls to the Galactic Knights who with their swords drawn and cloaks aflutter in the starry breeze do the bidding of the forces of well meaning. Riding among the flow of space these warriors of truth and virtue will lay waste to the planets of the evil ones. Glittering beams and shining blades against tentacles and teeth amid a landscape of lava and blackened skies.”

Back in the middle of November 2014 I put up a blog post announcing that 15mm.co.uk was very near to the five hundred packs sold that would lead to the expansion of HOF105 Galactic Knights by another two or so pack codes in 2015.  If you missed this posting CLICK HERE to read it before continuing. Got it?  Good.  The response to the possible expansion was really nice with a lot of comments, emails and messages coming back to us with suggestions and other ideas based on the list of possible packs I had outlined from customers and gamers who had already been in touch.  The goal of five hundred packs was passed and so we move onto the expansion.

So what was the winning suggestion?  Well it turned out that the logic in the initial post was pretty much spot on with the most requested codes being a command pack with four poses and a support pack with four poses allowing the creation of a whole force or platoon of Galactic Knights.  Coming in behind those two was a light vehicle such as a bike and also the creation of characters to lead a force.  Running a long way behind were a dozen asks for a pack of 'Ultragaranians' the enemy of the Galactic Knights which is interesting as I have no idea who or what they are!

We have therefore committed to two more HOF pack codes for the Galactic Knights with a total of eight new poses from Command and Support.

A few of the suggestions were a little outlandish to be sure.  These included a comic book series, a video segment and a series of 54mm scale miniatures along with t-shirts and also some 'suggestive drawings' based on the female knight in the existing artwork.  None of these were ever going to happen to be honest but we might do a t-shirt in the future as a limited run.  You never know.

There will be news on this blog once the miniatures are made.  This will be in the first quarter of 2015.  2015...the far future...is now.

Merry Christmas!

Expanding the Undead in the HOT 15mm Fantasy Range – Centaurs and Guard

“Love those new archers and spears in the HOT Range.
How about some elite skeletons to go with them?!”

This is the next stage in our Undead expansion for the HOT 15mm Fantasy Range and you can read the first expansion blog post HERE if you missed it.  There was some nice feedback in October 2014 upon the release of the two bulked up codes (missile troop and spear toting 15mm scale skeletons) so its now time to talk about what is coming up next.  Among the acre of feeddback from customers about expanding the Undead was a desire for more veteran or heavily armoured and armed infantry and also some kind of mounted troops too.  All of these would be from scratch as existing codes would have all been bulked out and released so we put our thinking caps on and come up with two more packs that would be at home on any 15mm fantasy players wargame table.  This second expansion adds to existing codes as follows:

HOT98 Skeltaur Cavalry (6 Miniatures)
While I might be incorrect I think that these miniatures may well be unique and I have certainly never seen skeletal centaurs or 'skeltaurs' before in my meanderings.  This pack gives some mixed use Undead cavalry with a twist.  The first post is a skeltaur with spear and small shield wearing a felt up a sort of medium cavalry.  The second pose is a skeltaur knight in armour and helmet armed with spear and shield for heavier cavalry and the last pose is a skeltaur with a bow for missile cavalry. The pack is a random mix of the three poses for a total of six miniatures they will suit most settings from classic fantasy to dungeoneering and medieval fantasy crossovers too. They fit in well with the rest of the HOT Undead Range of packs

HOT99 Skeleton Eternal Guard (16 Miniatures)
As your ranks of rattling bone boys advance to meet their mortal foes you sometimes think that it would be nice if they upped the ante a bit with a touch of extra armour to deflect incoming swords, spears, halberds and those pesky fire arrows too.  The upcoming Eternal Guard do that job nicely. Four different poses of Skeleton all in a mix of plate and mail armour.  The first pose with sword and round shield, the second an axe and round shield, the third a large two handed sword and the forth with a sabre raised and a large round shield.  Poses will be randomly mixed in the pack and these go great with HOT Skeleton archers and spears.  Use them to bolster your legions as they march the face of the world!
As with the rest of the HOT 15mm Fantasy Range we will be offering the purchase choices of a single pack or three packs with a ten percent saving or a sampler with one of each pose in the pack (great for skirmishing or dungeon crawling) all at great prices. Suitable for any 15mm Fantasy wargame rules system from HOTT 2nd Edition to Age of Might and Steel and others such as Song of Blades and Heroes.

We will be releasing these two codes on Friday 14th November 2014.

If you are a keen wargamer who plays the Undead in 15mm scale then there is already a lot to see in the HOT range.  Here are the current codes:

HOT40 Skeleton Missile Troops (16 miniatures)
HOT41 Skeleton Spears (16 miniatures)
HOT12 Ghoul, Wraith and Knight (16 miniatures)
HOT14 Hordes of the Dead (16 miniatures)
HOT21 Zombie Horde (16 miniatures)
HOT24 Undead Cavalry (6 miniatures)
HOT36 Mounted Wraiths (6 miniatures)
HOT63 Catapult with Undead Crew (1 set)
HOT64 Cadaver Zombies (10 miniatures)
HOT74 Wraith Lord on Fell Beast (1 set)
HOT83 Undead Command (16 pieces)
HOT95 Ghosts (10 miniatures)

These can all be found on the HOT 15mm Fantasy page of our website HERE.

If you have ideas for HOT then I always want to hear them.  The range almost always expands on the back of wargamers requests so comment here or all the better email me direct and let me know what you would like to see. There are mumblings of more monsters in the ether ports just now.

Thanks for Reading.

Expanding the Undead in HOT 15mm Fantasy – Bows and Spears

“Come on chaps!  I loved those Trolls and the Tabletop re-releases are all great too but I want more stuff in the HOT range.  How about some skeletons?!”

Back in the summer of this year 15mm.co.uk asked hundreds of its customers what they would like to see as the next expansion of packs in the superb HOT 15mm Fantasy Range.  There was an acre of feedback and it was tough to separate the leading requests by their popularity but in the end the subject that topped the table was The Undead.  The rattling of bones and the leering grin of a skeletal skull.  This was the stuff of new wargamers dreams for 15mm Fantasy as the comment at the top taken from the survey demonstrates.

As a result of this we have created several new pack codes expanding the Undead in the range but also altering existing codes in the range to improve them.  The project is in several parts but I am concerned here with this first part which we will see on the website and with our stockists soon.  This first part expands existing codes as follows:

HOT40 Skeleton Missile Troops    (16 Miniatures)
The current HOT40 is being up gunned with additional skeleton missile troops.  These poses add to the original skeleton archer in the pack.  Added poses are another three archers in varied stances and two poses of skeleton with crossbows.  This makes a new total of six poses in HOT40.  Dressed in a mix of armour pieces and clothing they will suit most settings from classic fantasy to dungeoneering and medieval fantasy crossovers too.

HOT41 Skeleton Spears (16 Miniatures)
The current HOT41 is being 'fleshed out' with additional spear toting skeleton troops.  These new poses add to the original two skeleton spearmen in the pack.  Added poses are another two skeletons in armour and clothing with spears.  This makes a new total of four poses in HOT41.  They fit in well with the rest of the HOT Undead Range of packs and will suit the same settings as HOT40 for example.

We begin the releases on Wednesday 29th of October 2014 with these two codes.

If you are a keen wargamer who plays the Undead in 15mm scale then there is already a lot to see in the HOT range.  Here are the current codes:

HOT12 Ghoul, Wraith and Knight (16 miniatures)
HOT14 Hordes of the Dead (16 miniatures)
HOT21 Zombie Horde (16 miniatures)
HOT24 Undead Cavalry (6 miniatures)
HOT36 Mounted Wraiths (6 miniatures)
HOT63 Catapult with Undead Crew (1 set)
HOT64 Cadaver Zombies (10 miniatures)
HOT74 Wraith Lord on Fell Beast (1 set)
HOT83 Undead Command (16 pieces)
HOT95 Ghosts (10 miniatures)

These can all be found on the HOT 15mm Fantasy page of our website HERE.

If you have ideas for HOT then I always want to hear them.  The range almost always expands on the back of wargamers requests so comment here or all the better email me direct and let me know what you would like to see. There will be a second part to this expansion of the Undead in the HOT range next month as we have even more codes coming.  But no spoilers at this point as they are still very much in the works.

Thanks for Reading.

Sneak Peek – Greens for new Trolls in the HOT Range

We are expanding our excellent and long running HOT (Hordes of Things) with new packs and among the first of these are two packs that have been topping the requests lists for a long time; Trolls. A central element in any Goblinoid army (Goblins, Orcs, Mountain Orcs, Hob Goblins and so on) are monsters and a firm favourite type of monster is the Troll. Big, ugly and stupid but with a feral lust for killing and raw flesh Trolls are really hard to bring down. So they fit right in with Goblinoids as a behemoth element in say a HOTT Army.

Our HOT3A Troll pack is a firm favourite and we must have sold literally thousands over the years of this pack. Lead designer Sam Croes looked at the original Troll very carefully and I asked him to be faithful to the styling of this original design. While there is no right way or wrong way to create a creature of pure fantasy there are styles to which you can assign your design. I favour what I would refer to as the high fantasy British approach when it comes to Trolls. Tall, rangy and thin with hooked noses and warts, pot belly and without intellect. This would be familiar to almost all wargamers as an approach. This is the approach that the original HOT3A Troll was designed under so it would be continued.

While the already existing Troll is hunched over and dragging a big stone headed hammer behind it the new greens feature a Troll in the same style (they could be monstrous brothers) but this one is standing up and has a similar but different style of stone headed hammer over its shoulder; its mouth open in a jagged toothed leer. The other new Troll is looking around while getting ready to dole out some pain with a gripped tree trunk. Each of these new greens is totally in scale with the original and stands around 25mm tall sole of foot to top of head. Provisionally these two will be supplied as codes HOT3C Troll and HOT3D Troll with two identical miniatures per pack. I think Sam Croes equalled the original Troll and they will all go well together in a little group of savage monsters.

If you enjoyed this short look at the new greens and have suggestions for an expansion to the HOT range then do let me know. You would be surprised how open we are to suggestions and creating what wargamers ask for. After all that is really just what these new Trolls are. We expect to release the new codes in a few weeks time.
