Warchest Blog paints up SHM Alien Characters

Jimboba is a fellow Scotsman who like this Scotsman really loves 15mm science fiction wargaming. Recently he posted images of some of his collection of 15mm alien characters and I asked him if it would be cool for me to feature his SHM Range aliens on our blog.  He agreed and indeed sent some more specially taken pictures (in the real world he is a talented graphic designer) for us to use.  You can see them below.  You can also see the original blog post on Warchest HERE from which these characters and their stories are taken.

If you like the look of these 15mm aliens which are excellent for any set of rules or setting you can see them all at the SHM 15mm Science Fiction Range on the website.  They are from left to right: SHM31 Baroka Crimelord, SHM50 Razak Bouncer, SHM66 Skorath Mercenary and SHM30 Gizbin Mercenary.  These are all miniatures designed by Eli Arndt.

Good job Jimboba!

Killer Plants and Survivors 15mm packs released!

“When the world ended it came in a way none of us foresaw. All that recycling, all the nature reclamation projects and all the efforts mankind made to save the jungles and forests from our predation; all turned to crap. The media, the damn media, they had us thinking the dead would walk. Pressure groups touting that the atom would poison the earth and fossil fuels would darken the sky. Hug a tree they said. Wrong. I used to be a web marketer...now I am something of a gardener. I wield the shears. How did it happen? I have no idea. All I know is that plants kill. Poison, acid and crushing vines. What is worse than that...they move too.”

We are delighted to present three new packs released into the SHM 15mm range (Self Help Miniatures) by new designer Craig Armstrong. Killer Plants and Survivors and we think they are Triffic! Craig has one other code in the SHM range and it is SHM88 Bestial Cyclops. While the three packs are being sold as packs you can also select single miniatures from the packs too using a drop down menu on the product pages since every figure is a character. Very useful in a lot of wargame systems. Go HERE or read on for more information.

New SHM 15mm sci-fi miniatures released! SHM84-89

This week we release four new miniatures into the SHM 15mm Range.  New unique alien miniatures all sculpted by Eli Arndt.  Eli has a large presence in the SHM Range which is open to any designer to submit miniatures both sci-fi and fantasy (contact us for details on sales@15mm.co.uk) to and it means you get figures that would otherwise probably never make it into your hands.  Go HERE.  For full information on this release please read on.

There are now more than nearly ninety different miniatures in the SHM range and this set can be had a pack or as singles.

SHMP24 Denizens of the Galaxy IV

This value pack contains ten white metal 15mm scale miniatures and offers a saving over single miniature purchase.  A random but even and fair mix of the following miniatures: SHM84 Phase 2 Biomorph, SHM85 Stovan Servitor, SHM86 Sand Dipper and SHM87 Thorn Crawler.  Great for any setting from space adventure to space opera to near future and post-apocalyptic madness with a hint of horror thrown in.  You can purchase one pack or purchase three with an additional ten percent saving off list price selecting that option on the page (that 10% more than the ten percent the pack saves you already).  7.00GBP per pack.

SHM84 Phase 2 Biomorph

One 15mm scale white metal miniature. Gene Splicers have a lot to answer for and top of the list is the late 23rd century creation of Biomorphs. Assembled from the DNA of several species and speed grown in vats the Biomorphs were seeded into conflict zones where they could exist for years easily. Often sprouting faces and ever changing teeth and eyes Biomorphs can sneak up or even drop from ceilings with deadly intent.  This is a large miniature about 30mm long follows up on SHM53 Biomorph. You can purchase multiples of one or select 'buy ten and save 10%' on the drop down product menu and save.   2.00GBP

SHM85 Stovan Servitor

One 15mm scale white metal miniature. Stovan used to be a byword for peace and harmony but no longer.  The entire Stovan race was fungal captured by the Kilthreen in a planet wide invasion turning them into servitors.  These servitors were then sold to the highest bidder across the galactic plane.  Large, solid and long lived a Stovan Servitor can be a real if tragic asset.  This miniature is 25mm tall. You can purchase multiples of one or select 'buy ten and save 10%' on the drop down product menu and save.   1.00GBP

SHM86 Sand Dipper

One 15mm scale white metal miniature.  The Sand Dipper is a common sight on hot inner system planets across the core having been seeded by colonists centuries ago.  It is a hard carapace creature expert in digging and with excellent night sight. This miniature is 10mm long. You can purchase multiples of one or select 'buy ten and save 10%' on the drop down product menu and save.   0.60GBP

SHM87 Thorn Crawler

One 15mm scale white metal miniature.  Do not be made unwary by the small size of the Thorn Crawler for it is a lethal predator.  Virtually every cell in its body is poisonous to all known carbon based life.  This has cost countless lives and generally Thorn Crawlers are shot when seen and then burned for even handling them can result in a fatal exposure to poison. This small miniature is 7mm tall. You can purchase multiples of one or select 'buy ten and save 10%' on the drop down product menu and save.   0.50GBP

Painting Agency Blog spots the Ikwen

“The pseudo-amphibioid natives of the jungle world Kwiell were progressing well through their version of the Bronze Age when the first sky visitors arrived.  Unfortunately for the Ikwen ("the Forest's Children" in their own language of hypersonic clicks and squeals) the visitors were not a curious scientific team, but a fleet of freebooters hired by the Human Empire to scout out sources of the fusion-modulating superheavy element unbihexium.....”

Allison M over at the Painting Agency Blog is a real fan of 15mm.co.uk and notably the Loud Ninja Games range of miniatures you can find there among many other things.  Check out the original blog post HERE and visit this page HERE for the Ikwen. The post on the painting agency blog concerns a guerilla action carried out by the native Ikwen against Human invaders.  A great little story which would sit well for a campaign using any 15mm sci-fi rules such as USEME or Alien Squad Leader with the Ikwen and perhaps the Rim Mercenaries from the HOF range standing in for the greedy Humans.

Tiny Outpost blog paints up the Collective Mind Monster

Neal Key is a keen wargamer who has recently placed his virtual toe into the realm of blogging. As a fan of our miniatures and centrally the excellent SHM Range where new designers get to show off their weird and wonderful ideas and talent he has thus far only a handful of posts on his blog. This will increase over time as Neal says but this time he is all about his painted SHM61 Collective Mind Monster. You can see it above and to read the full blog post go to his page HERE. Well done Neal!

Above is our own image of this code. Its one of many creatures in the range by Fjodin. His others include Creatures of Horror, Swampers, Mollusca, Nessite, Slurmite, Avarep Cobra and Galdor Burrowers as well as the chomping Krators! Images of some of these blow but you can see them all on our website HERE. These alien creatures are great for gracing your battlefield and making vignettes or perhaps an alien safari or two.

SHM71 Prang Raider

SHM72 Prang Raider

SHM73 Prang Raider

SHM34 Prang Trooper

All of these miniatures will appear in the 'IAF' code structure in new packs along with several new poses before the real expansion of the Prang begins in earnest in 2016.  If you still wish to get Prang in the meantime using the old codes then you can by email just contact us on sales@15mm.co.uk and ask for what you want.  The SHM Range is HERE.

If you are curious please visit The Ion Age to see what goes on there.  We suggest you bookmark that blog or join its mailing list to be informed as to the reappearance and expansion of this hugely successful alien race.   The greatest success story of the SHM Range that helps aspiring designers get their ideas into a white metal and resin reality.

At the top of this short article is an image that shows two of the new poses arriving in December over at The Ion Age.  They are a Prang Sherag (advisor) and a Prang with a new heavy support weapon. There are a total of six new poses which when added to the existing eight means a kicking off start of fourteen poses of these aliens.

The Prang by Eli Arndt moving to The Ion Age soon!

This is a joint blog post featuring on 15mm.co.uk and on The Ion Age both of which are part of Alternative Armies. Its a happy article concerning the long term future of one of the most adored parts of the popular SHM Range. In the SHM range new and aspiring designers get the chance to have 15mm scale miniatures put into production by us for free at 15mm.co.uk. Gavin Syme (GBS) does this to give a 'leg up' to talent in a world where often its almost impossible to get ahead and its helped more than a dozen sculptors both traditional and digital since its inception. While everyone has their favourites from the eighty odd codes in the SHM range there is one part of the range that has out performed all others...The Prang by Eli Arndt.

By arrangement between Gavin Syme (GBS), Sam Croes and Eli Arndt the Prang will leave the SHM Range and make the move across to The Ion Age in November 2015. What this means is that soon you will no longer be able to purchase Prang on 15mm.co.uk's pages and instead, under new codes but similar prices, the miniatures will arrive on The Ion Age pages. As part of the space opera awesome of The Ion Age the Prang will expand into an entire army, an entire range with a background in the narrative of the Prydian Precinct. While the current poses and codes of Prang will remain on the SHM Range page at 15mm.co.uk until the 9th November 2015 at which time they will be removed forever...argh! But do not fret! It will not be long after that before they appear once more. They will not stand still however as new poses have already been sculpted by Eli Arndt and here are a couple of inked up example master castings we are currently working on.

During next month there will be more announcement and releases for The Prang but in the meantime stock up if you wish and if you have questions please do ask on sales@15mm.co.uk or info@theionage.com. Go HERE for the Prang in the SHM Range on 15mm.co.uk until 9th November 2015.

Welcome to The Ion Age Eli! Its going to be a lot of fun!

Three Versions of The Controller

SHM22 The Controller is one of the most popular single figures in the SHM Range as part of its selection of 15mm science fiction miniatures.  Sculpted by Fjodin back in 2011 it has been featuring in collections ever since.  It depicts an alien overseer possessed of a mighty mind and a frail body. Overseeing the actions of his minion legions he is a foe not to be taken lightly. Perfect for the evil leader of an alien army.  You can see it HERE.

Two firm fans of 15mm science fiction sent their pictures of their own colour scheme for The Controller to us and this has allowed us to show our own and their take on just what can be done with this miniature.  I have seen other versions in yellow, in blue and in white so it is a figure that can be painted up in many different ways.   First our own studio painted version in pale and sickly pink. Then a version in green and silver (very fetching!) painted by Neal Key in the UK.  Lastly a deep pink and mottled version (very threatening!) painted by Ralph Plowman also in the UK.  Ralph has his own wargame blog which makes for fine reading HERE.

If you like to support the diversity that is growing in 15mm scale in science fiction then you should not overlook the SHM Range.  At 15mm.co.uk we are all about fostering wargamers talents and interests and to that end back in 2009 Gavin Syme (GBS) created the SHM idea.  'Self Help Miniatures' are designed by aspiring sculpters who in return for giving their creations to 15mm.co.uk get into the hobby and gain experience.  As a result a dozen designers (some of them working on their own right in the industry now) have submitted designs which made it to the SHM Range and this website.  If you are keen on seeing what it takes to get into this range then send us an email on sales@15mm.co.uk. Have a browse for unique miniatures that otherwise would likely not exist if it was not for SHM.

Lastly the current month is nearing its end and that means that our current special offers will be ending on 1st October 2015.  Here is what we currently have on offer and if you want to get some of these with a saving for your wargame collection then now is the time.  We have 15% off all the pack codes in the Security Force Alpha (SFA) collection which is part of the HOF Range.  Go HERE.

HOF27 Maginot Defence Turret (1 Kit)

HOF106 SFA Female Troopers (10)
